GAZA AT A GLANCE
· More than 34,000 Palestinians killed and >100,000 injured and most of them are women and children.
· 1.7 million Palestinians, nearly 75% of the population, are internally displaced.
· 3.1 million people in need of humanitarian assistance across Gaza and the West Bank
· More than 250 humanitarian aid workers killed.
· Over 60% of Gaza’s housing is damaged or destroyed.
· 100% of Gazans are experiencing hunger.
We are witnessing worst humanitarian crisis of our lifetime in Gaza and devastating violence is making it worse every day causing a humanitarian emergency that will persist long after the fighting eventually stops.
Palestinian civilians are enduring the brutal consequences of hostilities without sufficient regard for the international laws and norms built to protect civilians even in the most dire circumstances.
Gaza is now the deadliest place for civilians and aid workers in the world. Israeli military operations have caused catastrophic destruction and widespread death and displacement throughout Gaza, particularly in the north, killing more than 34,000 Palestinians and injuring more than 77,000 others. Up to 70% of those killed are said to be women and children. The number of Palestinians in need of assistance will continue to grow as violence continues. Only an end to the fighting will offer civilians safety.
Is Gaza facing a famine?
Almost all of Gaza's population has been without access to essential food, clean water and healthcare for six months, pushing the population to the blink of famine.
The entire population in the Gaza Strip is facing high levels of acute food insecurity with half of the population (about 1.11 million) experiencing catastrophic food insecurity facing an extreme lack of food and are unable to meet other basic needs, even after full employment of coping strategies.
